It was another dismal night at the DW for Wire on Friday, as Steve Price's team fell to a fifth consecutive Super League defeat. Rankings should be fun then...
1) Joe Philbin
One of Philbin's best performances for the club. 159 metres is a wonderful return, with 18 carries of the ball. Showed a lot of aggression and desire which was missing before he came on.
2) Daryl Clark
As always, a tremendous performance from Clark, who was absolutely everywhere. 37 tackles and 156 metres made. Even when the team is as dire as this, Clark still manages to shine. Would've had an assist but for Patton's poor finishing too.
3) Ben Westwood
It's a real shame that Westwood's career is coming to an end on the back of this terrible form. He played well at Wigan, not missing a tackle and making two neat offloads - the only criticism was a knock-on early in his stint. Showed more heart and fight than most.
4) Mike Cooper
A good performance in the pack, getting through plenty of work including 29 tackles. Cooper made three offloads in typical Cooper fashion, but unfortunately the rest of the team weren't on the same wavelength.
5) Chris Hill
A fairly solid performance from Hill, completing 28 tackles and not missing any, which is very good. Certainly shouldn't be the man returning kicks in-goal though, and of course, conceded a penalty.
6) Ben Currie
Absolutely outstanding tackle to prevent another Wigan try in the first-half, which is largely why he ranks highly. Missed a few tackles but was still up there as one of the team's top tacklers statistically.
7) Toby King
16 tackles completed and none missed, as well as keeping Oliver Gildart pretty quiet for the fourth time this season. Had very little in the way of attacking play.
8) Jake Mamo
Didn't have a great deal to do in the game but three missed tackles and just four completed isn't good reading. To be fair to him, no mistakes when he went to full back.
9) Sitaleki Akauola
Very low minutes - was taken off after just 13 despite starting the game. Didn't have the impact on the game that he usually does.
10) Harvey Livett
Had a few decent moments and a really good assist for Lineham's try but made plenty of mistakes and missed seven tackles - not great.
11) Bryson Goodwin
Was doing okay until his head knock. Really shouldn't have been allowed to continue in the game - we conceded three tries down that side after his injury and at half-time he was taken off, and is now a doubt for Wembley.
12) Jason Clark
Played a nice pass to help set up Lineham's try but other than that it wasn't a great game. Came onto the pitch very early and made a good number of tackles, but also a few errors including a terrible knock-on in the second-half.
13) Declan Patton
Weird game for Patton. Was certainly the better of the two halfbacks, and on another day would've had two tries to his name. Really should've scored the first - awful not to finish that. Very poor decision not to award the second by the video ref. Was also a little unlucky not to get a 40/20. Overall he made a few poor passes and mistakes but it wasn't his worst game.
14) Tom Lineham
Yes he got the try, but it was a very simple one and his all-round game was terrible. Horrible positioning for the first try and very lucky not to be punished for another when Hardaker played a forward pass. Also cost the team two points by conceding a completely needless penalty.
15) Ben Murdoch-Masila
17 metres. SEVENTEEN. It's horrendous.
16) Stefan Ratchford
Every now and again Ratchford has a stinking game, like at Saints away in April. Defensively he was dire and should've done far better for Williams and Hardaker's tries. He really isn't good enough at one-on-ones. We didn't attack enough for him to get involved in that side of the game. Fingers crossed he is available for next week though, as when he is on song he is a key player for us.
17) Matty Smith
I mean, this isn't looking like it's been the most inspiring of signings, is it? He's created the square root of nothing in his first two games, and has made a handful of errors, including a stupid penalty and a simple knock-on in this game. I'm no Kevin Brown fan but Brown, or Riley Dean for that matter, would be better options.
It's always our year.
